In 1991 a group of our Year 13 pupils set out on the first ever St. Louis school trip to Romania. Motivated by the images of suffering and deprivation which had been appearing in the media since the fall of the Caucescau regime in 1989, they travelled with pupils from several other schools to the city of Brasov. In spite of difficulties, the trip was a huge success and much needed aid was delivered to orphanages and hospitals in the region.
Ever since this initial trip, we have been sending groups of our Sixth Formers to Romania every year. Since 1998, as a result of the demand from pupils to wishing participate, we have increased the number of trips to two per year. Thanks to the efforts of our pupils and the tremendous generosity of our local community, we have been able undertake major building and refurbishment projects in orphanages and hospitals.
In 2004 we cemented our longstanding, cross-community partnership with Cambridge House Grammar School with the formation of the Friends for Romania project.
