SOCCER

St Louis students compete in the NI Cup at U14, U16 and U18 while the local competition (Mid Antrim) caters for Year 8 to Year 11 students.

The Mid-Antrim Cup, which consists of school teams from Ballymena and surrounding area.  The Northern Ireland Cup has school teams from all around the province and is a more prestigious knock out competition.

St Louis won the Senior Cup (U18) in 2008 under the guidance of Mr J Sexton and have reached three finals since then.  In 2012 the U14 squad lost out to St Columb's Derry while the same panel of players reached the U16 final in 2014 only to lose 4-0 to the Derry city school again.  The senior team qualified for the 2014 decider also but came up against a very slick, skilful and talented Belfast Met team.  The Belfast side had four players on their squad who play in the Irish League and their experience was evident in their 3-1 win to compound an unsuccessful day for St Louis.

Current Northern Ireland manager, Michael O’Neill is a past pupil of St Louis.  Michael was invited to Sports Prize Day in 2012 and later visited the school in 2016 as part of an interview/documentary being broadcast on RTE. St Louis students also got to interview Michael O’Neill as part of a BBC school report which you can read about on the following link: http://www.stlouisgrammar.com/news/interview-with-michael-oneill-on-rte-next-week

GOLF

St Louis students have an opportunity to compete in some golf competitions during their time at the school including a NEBSSA golf day which is usually held in June.

In March 2012 Una Bradley entered the ILGU School’s Senior Ladies competition.  This was the first time in a considerable number of years that St Louis had a female entry in such a prestigious event. The competition took place at the splendid Portstewart Golf Club and Una played extremely well and narrowly missed out by a single point in qualifying for the All Ireland series.

SWIMMING

St Louis students have the opportunity to compete in a number of Ulster Secondary School Swimming Gala’s during the year.  Mrs E Doherty is the staff member in charge of swimming and she keeps pupils up to date with all the information on galas.

OUTSIDE SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENTS

St Louis like to recognise student achievements in sport outside of school whether it be at team level or individual success.

The staff in the PE Department are happy to help facilitate student entry into competitions which are not Ulster College’s, NEBSSA etc. based.
